How My Business Took Off

My business started very small — with jewellery.

I had just been made redundant from the jewellery company I was working for, and honestly, I didn’t know what to do next. After years of working 60-hour weeks in retail management, being left without a job in a small business was a huge shock. But I knew one thing for certain: I needed to build something for myself.

I had no idea how to do that — I just knew I had to start somewhere. So, I started with jewellery. While I didn’t crash and burn, I quickly realised I was creating pieces in an overly saturated market, and I wasn’t standing out the way I needed to.

Fast forward through working multiple jobs, long days, late nights, and still holding onto the dream of running my own business — and we arrive at today.

After another crazy year, the biggest piece of advice I can give anyone wanting to start their own business is this: it all starts with one product. One truly niche product that people flock to. That single focus is what allowed Ellie’s Corner to grow the way it has and gave me the opportunity to expand our range. I now love being able to offer personalised pieces made right here at Ellie’s Corner, alongside stocking products from other incredible independent businesses.
